Ted Merwin, Ph.D. is the Senior Writer for JFNA.

He is the author of two books: In Their Own Image: New York Jews in Jazz Age Popular Culture and Pastrami on Rye: An Overstuffed History of the Jewish Deli, which won a National Jewish Book Award. His articles on Jewish culture have appeared in Newsweek, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Haaretz, Hadassah, Moment, and many other newspapers and magazines; he also served for nineteen years as the theater critic of the New York Jewish Week. Ted speaks regularly from coast to coast on Jewish culture, drawing on his extensive collection of Jewish food-related memorabilia, which includes rare neon signs and light-up clocks from delis in New York and Chicago. He lives in Baltimore with his wife (Jewish educator Andrea Lieber) and their three daughters.
